A Laser Cut Wedding

I’m so excited that our very first feature on For Flourish Sake is this woodsy laser-cut suite from Shabina at Paper and Pixel Studio. After years of designing for friends and family, Shabina recently took the leap and launched her business and website!

Here’s what Shabina from Paper and Pixel Studio had to say about designing this suite:

First of all, this invitation is dear to me because it was for my sister-in-law's wedding. I think she was about 10 when I first met her after my husband and I started dating! As for the invitation itself, I think it's special because it incorporates a pretty unusual material for wedding invitations: wood! The cover of this tri-fold invitation (which features an illustration by the bride) was laser cut out of bamboo veneer. Then, to bring some color into the text of the invitation, the couple's name as well as 'RSVP' were laser cut to allow the beautiful textured blue mat to show through. For the actual wedding, we continued with the wood element from the invitation: I laser cut a simple wood cake topper bearing the couple's initials and wood tags that were tied around the necks of little honey jars that served as both gifts for the guests and place cards.

Marcy and Mac both love the outdoors and are avid backpackers and campers. They wanted their wedding to be soft and earthy. I think the use of wood and the delicate details of the branches in the invitation captures this.

Since then, she has created wedding and party invitations for family, friends, family friends, friends of friends…you get the idea! It’s been her dream for many years to create a website for her work and while it’s scary, she’s finally taken the leap!

Outside of her studio work, Sabina loves travelling the world with her husband. At home, you'll find her curled up with a book, or working on a New York Times crossword puzzle, knitting, or learning to play the ukulele, and always with her loyal 15 year old pup Jedi by her feet.
